Our Balanced Story

A movement philosophy goes beyond the surface.

Where the True Healing Begins

We do not just move muscles. We support the person behind them.

The Internal Connection

Physical pain and mental stress are deeply intertwined. At Balanced, we use the precision of STOTT Pilates to help regulate your nervous system. By focusing on breath and intentionality, we help you transition out of "fight or flight". This leads to a state of restorative calm. We build resilience from the inside out.

Our Restorative Mission

Strength for your life.

We help you feel supported, confident, and empowered in your body through mindful movement and expert care.

Mission

We provide a professional environment where complex bodies feel understood and capable again.

Vision

We want to make the world healthier and more connected by blending science-based care with a warm neighborhood experience.

How Our Story Started

A different kind of care.

After two decades in clinical settings, Betsy O’Malley realized the "factory line" approach to healthcare was failing patients.

Balanced was founded to provide a private, intentional space in Midland where medical expertise and movement coexist.

By combining 25 years of Physical Therapy experience with the precision of STOTT Pilates, she created a boutique environment where you are truly heard.

Today, we are more than just a studio. We are a community dedicated to restorative movement.

The Integrated Method

Science meets mindful movement.

We bridge the gap between rehab and daily life. Our Physical Therapists, STOTT Instructors, and Dietitian work together.

We ensure:

  • Your movement is safe.

  • Your recovery is sustainable.

  • Your body is properly fueled for functional independence.

Beyond the Muscle

Calming your nervous system.

Physical restoration requires mental clarity. Chronic pain and stiffness often keep the body in a state of stress. This prevents true healing.

Our approach uses intentional breathwork and the precision of STOTT Pilates to regulate your nervous system and lower cortisol levels.

We help you transition to a state of restorative ease.

Community Involvement

Connection and continued education.

We believe a healthier Midland starts with intentional connection. Our team is active in local initiatives that prioritize wellness and professional integrity.

We are proud members of the Midland Business Alliance and the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition, participating in community and wellness events. These partnerships allow us to stay connected to the needs of our neighbors.

STOTT Pilates Community

As members of the Merrithew STOTT Pilates Community. Our instructors complete rigorous training and certification and 6 credits of continued education each year.

Silver Sneakers

We are proud partners with Silver Sneakers, offering Chair Pilates classes to members.

Our Space

810 East Ashman Street, Midland, MI 48642

We have two buildings (the Studio and the Big House) located in Center City on the corner of Washington and Ashman Streets — kitty corner from Great Lakes Ice Cream.

Expert Care Stories

In their own words.

Close-up of an older woman with short gray hair, wearing glasses and a green floral-patterned shirt, smiling indoors.

“The Balanced Pilates and Wellness team is great. Warm and welcoming, they quickly put you at ease. You know they are there to listen and to help you find the right solutions that meet your needs.

The instructors are well-trained and keep their classes fresh and challenging. During COVID I took full advantage of their online live classes which I still do today – convenient if you cannot make it to the studio.

I also enjoy the equipment classes which are frequently a bonus exercise for my brain.

This year the team helped me prepare for 2 weeks of walking in Europe and it sure paid off - I was able to navigate some steep steps without a hitch.

I consider my ongoing membership to be a personal investment in my longevity and quality of life.”
